$3.69m Kimberley Capacity Grants Support Local Aboriginal Jobs
$3.69m in grants is supporting workforce growth at 17 Kimberley native title organisations, including ranger, administration and land roles.

Seventeen Kimberley native title organisations are receiving $3.69 million through Western Australia's Native Title Party Capacity Building Program, with the State Government saying the funding is helping organisations expand workforces and strengthen cultural-heritage services. The announcement, released on 26 August 2026, provides concrete examples of role types but does not state a combined number of new vacancies.
The funding supports Aboriginal-led organisations responsible for cultural heritage, engagement with Traditional Owners, governance and responses to land-use and agreement-making activity. This is employment news because capacity funding can support the organisational roles that make those services possible. It should not be read as a promise that all 17 recipients are recruiting immediately.
Roles already supported by the program
The government release identifies Gogolanyngor Aboriginal Corporation as one organisation that has expanded its workforce, including ranger, administration and land-management roles. It says the additional capacity has improved the corporation's ability to work with Traditional Owners and project proponents on heritage management.
Other examples show that the work is broader than field operations. Malarngowem Aboriginal Corporation has used support to strengthen governance through board and committee processes. Karajarri Traditional Lands Association has added frontline support and improved workflows for proponents engaging on cultural-heritage matters. That mix points to potential demand for administration, governance, community engagement, project coordination and heritage capability alongside on-Country roles.
What this means for Kimberley job seekers
For local candidates, the important point is that Aboriginal corporations can offer several career pathways. Ranger work is visible, but organisations also need reliable administration, records management, finance, governance, stakeholder liaison and project support. Some positions may value cultural authority, local community knowledge or language skills in addition to formal qualifications.
Applicants should monitor the websites and community channels of individual recipient organisations because there is no single recruitment portal for the program. Candidates can also review current jobs across Western Australia and government and public-sector jobs for related heritage, land and program roles. A listing should be checked directly with the named organisation before applying.
What this means for employers and project proponents
For proponents working in the Kimberley, stronger native title organisations can improve the capacity for timely, informed engagement. Capacity does not remove the need for respectful consultation or compliance. It means organisations may be better placed to maintain staff, systems and community engagement over a longer period.
Employers recruiting into these organisations should describe the location, travel requirements, community responsibilities and decision-making relationships clearly. Remote roles can be difficult to fill and retain when housing, transport, professional support and progression are not addressed. A job advertisement that focuses only on duties and omits the practical conditions of living and working in the region gives candidates an incomplete picture.
How the wider program works
The Native Title Party Capacity Building Program was established in 2023 with $58 million. According to the State Government, 77 participating native title parties across WA receive regular funding through three- or four-year agreements. Multi-year funding matters because organisations can plan roles and systems with more certainty than they can under a short one-off grant.
Jobs In Perth has not converted the $3.69 million into an estimated job count. The public release does not provide enough information about salary costs, non-labour spending, existing positions or the duration of each recipient's allocation to make that calculation responsibly.
Editorial note: The announcement confirms funding and examples of workforce expansion. It does not identify a total number of vacancies available now.
